Grumpy Old Men

I'm not one to count my chickens before they're hatched, but I'm getting sick and tired of this nonsense that the Democratic party will not reunite in November. John McCain is the one in for a rough surprise once the nomination process is over. Who can compete against a round table of the Al Gore, Bill Richardson, Jimmy Carter, Jon Edwards, the Democratic runner-up, Oprah, celebrities, musicians, other party leaders all imploring "only one party is offering universal healthcare, an end to the quagmire in Iraq, and an end to No Child Left Behind." You then show the picture of John McCain embracing George Bush in that very picture McCain wishes he could take back. Are people really going to be enthusiastic and supportive of McCain, Joe Lieberman, and Dick Cheney(he never goes away)? Sounds more like the modern day version of the Walter Matthau movie "Grumpy Old Men."

I also find it ironic that McCain is the Republican nominee considering he is exactly what the Republicans ran against last year - an extremely wealthy "flip-flopper". But no-one dare ever "swift-boat" Mr. McCain, because his service was more honorable than Kerry's.

We will have 5 months after June 3rd for commercials and debate with millions of new registered Democrats, not to mention record fund raising and turnout. I have faith that this party will get over the non-issue of race or sex and realize that we must do everything in our power to elect the Democratic Nominee come November.

The Fat Lady Already Sang

Hillary Clinton is a real trooper that refuses to go away. Having been
given up for dead after losing Iowa, she came back with a win in New
Hampshire. Then after a series of 11 straight consecutive losses -
followed by a win in Ohio and a tie (in delegates) in Texas, she's won
our great commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The only problem is, it means absolutely nothing.

The Democratic party distributes it's delegates unlike the Republican
"winner-take-all" method by distributing them proportionally. For
example, Pennsylvania has 158 delegates, but because Hillary only won
by 9%, she only gained about 13 delegates on Obama. This causes Obama
to drop from a 161 delagate lead to about 148, proving its going to
take a lot more then a 9 point win in her "home" state and other states
to even come close to Obama. She would have to win the remaining
states by about 75%-25% just to come close to tying Obama;
mathematically and demographically impossible.

May 6th makes way for the next 2 primaries: North Carolina and Indiana.
Obama is projected to win both states, causing Hillary to lose the
ephemeral one-up she got in Pennsylvania. There is no possible way
that Barack will go into the convention without being up anywhere from
100-150 delagates. The Democratic Party isn't willing to see its
demise by telling the 15 million voters, the 30+ states, and the 80% of
the student Democratic voters that the superdelagates mean more than
them. This is the party founded by Thomas Jefferson "to follow the
will of the people." It will be immensely improbable since the heads of
the party (Bill Richardson, Jimmy Carter, John Kerry, etc.) have all
endorsed Senator Obama, and would not like to see a brokered convention
- like the one that cost Hubert Humphrey the presidency in 1968 to good
old Richard Nixon.

Until May 6, we'll be treated to much hoopla about how the Democratic
race is once again up for grabs. Then, Hillary's hopes will be lost
again (not to mention her campaign is in debt and Barack raised $41
million last month) after the eventual losses in NC and Indiana (not
the 75-25 victory she needs). After the primaries Obama will have over
1,900 delegates (elected and super), and he'll only need about 100
more, out of about 300 uncommitted superdelegates.

Considering the endorsements he has started to receive post-PA, enough
superdelegates will go to Obama to put him over the top - he'll be the
candidate. There is no question. WE MUST REJOIN TOGETHER. But
Democrats all around must not fret over the loss of Hillary, because
our first woman president will be right around the corner for 2016 -
the Democratic governor of Kansas, Kathleen Sebelius, an Obama Super
delegate.

Welcome!

"The future does not belong to those who are content with today, apathetic toward common problems and their fellow man alike, timid and fearful in the face of new ideas and bold projects. Rather it will belong to those who can blend passion, reason, and courage in a personal commitment to the ideals and great enterprises of American society. It will belong to those who see that wisdom can only emerge from the clash of contending views, the passionate expression of deep and hostile beliefs. Plato said: 'A life without criticism is not worth living.'"

~Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy

The youth apathy towards politics and government in my area of the country is striking. Here in Northeast PA, it's extremely rare to find anyone interested in politics and/or the desire to know what really happens behind closed doors in Washington.

This blog will be a place for ALL people to come and discuss the issues facing us today. We will look critically at the problems facing our nation and world, try to find solutions, and spread our message of truth and justice.

Lightheartedly, this will also be a home for quotes, jokes, reviews, and anything that makes us laugh, think, and learn. Analytically, we can even discuss good poetry, books, movies, and philosophy.

Religion and evoluton both prove that we need to progress and move forward in our lives and better the life of others. I will leave you with another quote from Robert F. Kennedy, "Bobby."

"For it is not enough to allow dissent. We must demand it. For there is too much to dissent from."
